PRESTON PINKNEY, PRESIDENT & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PINKNEY FOUNDATION, ANNOUNCED AS RECIPIENT OF THE 2023 “JEFFERSON AWARD.”

Oakland, CA (February 2023) — The Pinkney Foundation’s president & executive director Preston Pinkney has become a recipient of the 2023 “Jefferson Award.” The award was created in 1972 by the American Institute for Public Service and is the country’s longest standing and most prestigious organization dedicated to achieving and celebrating public service.

The Jefferson Awards are given at both local and national levels: The local winners are ordinary people who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition. Pinkney is awarded for his service, contributions, and leadership as a San Francisco Bay Area youth program director in areas of YouthDevelopment relating to Golf, Music & Arts, Education, and Financial literacy.
During the past two decades Mr. Pinkney has provided leadership in programs for more than 10,000 Bay Area youths – primarily for those that have participated in the foundation’s Ace Kids Golf program. The programs were conducted in Oakland, and Richmond, CA. He has formed longtime relationships with other East Bay youth organizations such as Camp Sweeney, Eat Learn & Play, Oakland Parks & Recreation, Oakland Unified School District, City of Richmond, 2K Foundations, Touchstone Golf, and Pollinator Posse.

Pinkney states, “I am honored and humbled to be a 2023 Jefferson Award recipient. It brings me great pleasure to share with others my passion for youth during 23-years of service in the Oakland community.” He continues by saying, “We have made big strides, but we have more work to do. Thank you.”

The Pinkney foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created to serve urban youth by providing programs

and projects that assist in developing essential life skills in areas such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship,

education, arts, humanities, and recreation.
